Why we love entering our projects into architecture awards (our reasons go beyond mere vanity!)
Like most architects, we love it when our work is recognised in awards programs. But our reasons for showcasing recently completed projects go much deeper than mere vanity. Find out why we think it’s important to draw wider attention to our clients’ vision and projects through awards.
We’re always thrilled when our architecture projects are shortlisted in awards programs, or better still, win an award, which is why we regularly enter programs run by the Australian Institute of Architects and Learning Environments Australasia.
Last year, for example, it was an absolute honour that our Kallangur State School GLA Building won its category at the 2024 Learning Environments Australasia – Queensland Chapter Awards, where it was named the best New Building/s or Facility/s – Small (under $10M).
But our reasons for entering awards go much deeper than just seeking industry recognition for the quality of our projects.
Why are we so keen to enter our projects into various awards programs?
We see awards as an opportunity for our design projects to be evaluated by our peers and – more importantly – as a way to champion the value of inclusive, thoughtful design in educational spaces.
Our mission is to create schools that, no matter the size or budget, are the best possible place for all students to thrive.
By entering awards, we can highlight the importance of creating environments that support diverse learning needs, and foster community, and that are accessible to everyone. Awards programs provide us with an opportunity to showcase how good design can have a profound impact on the educational experience.
Every student deserves a space that empowers them, and by highlighting our work – and our longstanding commitment to inclusive education in a range of settings from specialist to mainstream – we are actively advocating for a future where schools are places that truly reflect the values of inclusivity, accessibility, and excellence for all.
How do our clients benefit from choosing to work with award-winning architects?
High quality design – We are recognised by our peers for our ability to deliver exceptional designs. Our future clients can be assured that the Giarola Architects’ team understands the complex needs associated with designing and delivering exemplary learning environments.
Innovation and Modern Solutions – Architecture firms that win awards are leaders in their field and push the boundaries of what’s possible. Our forward-thinking designs are based on years of indepth research and testing, and they integrate the latest technologies, practices and teaching pedagogies.
Inclusive Learning Environments – Our strong understanding of learning environments and our specialist knowledge in designing for Autistic students has lead us to win multiple awards, and to positively impact the design and delivery of education projects more broadly by sharing our research findings. This industry recognition underscrores the importance of our philosophy that all children deserve access to education.
Long-Term Value – Many awards criteria focus on longevity, sustainability and value-cost, and our focus on these qualities ensures that our clients will receive new buildings that stand the test of time.
Risk reduction – With a successful track record, schools can feel more confident about selecting award winning architectural firms, that can deliver projects on time, within budget and to a high-quality standard. Giarola Architects projects have been assessed and judged by jury members who are industry and education sector experts.
